Our History

A Brief History Hupp ToyotaLift
and Hupp Electric Motors…

In 1912, William Hupp started the Electric Motors Company, which specialized in wiring grain mills and elevators.  When William passed away in 1938, his son Julian Hupp took over management and the business changed focus.

The new focus is primarily the sale and repair of electric motors, motor controls, and power tools; selling to industrial accounts, dealers, and contractors.  Julian changed the company name in 1963, to Hupp Electric Motors to reflect their already rich history and assure that their name was as memorable as their business.

In 1970 Bob Hupp purchased the company from his father Julian.  Bob and Executive Vice President Chuck Engler created a strong philosophical backbone for the business by turning their focus to industrial business and creating an unwavering commitment to customer service by pledging to stand behind every product and service Hupp Motors sold 24 hours a day.

Hupp has consistently been a leader in the electrical motor service and repair industry, setting standards for the entire motor repair industry.  As continual trendsetters and innovators, Hupp has been first in a number of programs.

In 1979, Hupp started a project to significantly improve the quality of motor repair. They created the first Motor Repair Procedures and Specifications manual, which they have improved many times and is still in use today industry wide.

Hupp was the first company to develop a program in predictive maintenance.  The program has grown to include vibration analysis, computerized motor winding evaluation, thermography, lubrication analysis and switchgear maintenance.

As a part of Hupp’s commitment to service, they have continually expanded their facilities and departments to meet customer needs.  In 1982 Hupp purchased Power Lift, Inc., the only Toyota forklift dealer in Iowa and Western Illinois.  Today they are known as Hupp ToyotaLift and specialize in material handling solutions.

Other new services have been added since 1982.  The Engineered Products Division manufactures all types of control panels, repairs and retrofits switchgear, provides start-up assistance on electronic equipment, does troubleshooting and performs “board level” repairs on industrial electronic equipment.

Hupp Electric Motors has been a family run business since it’s beginning. Because of their solid foundation and philosophy, passed down from generation to generation, they are leaders in industry innovation and customer service.
